This piece is a study for a bigger idea I have yet to make. I wanted to play with the intersection of text with the butterflies.  Inspired by Robert Indiana’s Love sculpture, I carefully designed the text and cut it from matte black paper. The butterflies are cut from gold and glittered gold paper.

In my works, I like to play with the contrast of colors, textures, and lines.  The tension and interference of the butterflies collecting together within the text, confined, versus the ones that break free. This tension parallels what it means to love - providing safety and freedom at the same time.
