I Love Paper

Caroline Belanger. Hirst Dots, 2014-2018. Mixed media on paper. 20 x 16 in. (50.8 x 40.7 cm)

I LOVE PAPER. Paint, print, fold, tear, cut. Soft as velvet or slick and shiny. Readily available to all, not everyone sees paper the way I do. Not all paper is destined for a filing cabinet or recycling bin. Paper has the potential to bring joy to others, whether it be announcing an important life event, declaring ownership, collecting memories, or illustrating imagination. Transform it, frame it, and display it for all to see.

My daughter is a prolific artist. The child of two artists (though for years I think we have both tried to profess otherwise), what else would you expect? Doodles, elaborate drawings, collages, and paintings litter our home.

Sadly, we cannot keep everything, or we would look like a special arts edition of “Hoarders.” Perhaps we already do? I am not ruthless enough to throw it away. There are great companies that will take the art, photograph it, and make a coffee table book, but I wanted something more. I took the less desirable works (as in overall, they weren’t my favorites, because those I keep) and started to cut them out to make an abstract composition: I transformed it, framed it, and displayed it for all to see.

I started to realize that this might be something of interest to others. As a result, I have launched Paper Scissors Art to transform your paper* memories into bespoke art that hangs alongside your carefully curated art collection and compliments your home décor.

*Not limited to paper. There are so many possibilities!
